ARMENIAN-GENOCIDE-RECOGNIZING TURKISH JOURNALIST BECOMES CHIEF EDITOR OF TURKEY'S TARAF DAILY

ISTANBUL. - Columnist Oral Calislar of Radikal daily of Turkey is
appointed chief editor of Turkey's renowned Taraf daily.
Taraf's owner Basar Arslan decided to designate Calislar in place
of the daily's former editor-in-chief Ahmet Altan, who had quit one
month ago, Istanbul's Agos Armenian bilingual weekly reports. Prior
to this appointment, however, Taraf's acting chief editor was Armenian
journalist Markar Esayan, who is the coordinator of the daily.
Oral Calislar is among those few Turkish intellectuals that recognize
the Armenian Genocide. On April 24, 2012, he took part in the Armenian
Genocide commemoration event that was held at Istanbul's Taksim Square.
