YEREVAN. - Turkey has focused its attention on the Middle East,
Armenia's National Academy of Sciences Institute of Orientology
Director, turkologist Ruben Safrastyan stated during a press conference
on Tuesday.
"[And] The Armenian-Turkish normalization process has met an impasse,
and the signed protocols have lost their relevance," Safrastyan added.
In his view, at the moment Turkey is more concerned with the fate
of Syria.
"If Turkey were to stop supporting the Syrian opposition, the
present-day authorities would be able to control the situation.
[President Bashar al-]Assad can solely be overthrown in the case of a
foreign military intervention," the turkologist maintained. He added,
however, that Syria's population still supports Assad.
As for Iran, the analyst assured that no country has any reliable
information on the level of this country uranium enrichment.
"For this reason we can assume that there will not be [any] military
actions [taken against Iran] in the next six months," Ruben Safrastyan
concluded.
