Armenia : TWO transportation projects worth $3 billion launched
The company Rasia said that by order of Armenian president Serzh
Sargsyan, the Minister of Transportation and Communications Gagik
Beglaryan announced the commencement of "The Southern Railway of
Armenia" and "The Southern High-Speed Railway of Armenia" projects,
worth $3 billion.
Senior government officials, ambassadors, representatives of
investment and sovereign wealth funds in addition to corporate leaders
>From Armenia, China, Russia, the United Arab Emirates and Iran
attended the signing ceremony.
Also, "South Caucasus Railways", the Ministry of Transport and
Communications of the Republic of Armenia and Rasia inked a tripartite
Memorandum of Understanding on regional cooperation intended for the
development of The Southern Railway of Armenia.
It is believed that the Southern Railway of Armenia will be a
single-track electrified railway 316 km long, running from the area of
Ghawar, situated beside Lake Sevan, to the southern border of Armenia
close to the town of Meghri where the line will be linked with the
current main Armenian railway system.
The Southern high-speed railway of Armenia will cover 110 km and will
be extended from Sisian to the southern border of Armenia close to the
town of Meghri.
