Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan's criticism against Armenian
Prosecutor General's Office was conditioned by the fact that
Prosecutor General's Office failed to immediately separate the cases
of criminal nature from the Control Chamber's report and to
investigate them, Aghvan Hovsepyan, Armenian Prosecutor General, told
journalists.
He said that the Prosecutor General's Office launched that process
after receiving the relevant materials on the Control Chamber's report
from Speaker of Armenian Parliament Hovik Abrahamyan. Aghvan Hovsepyan
does not rule out possible institution of criminal cases based on the
materials of the Control Chamber's report.
To note, Head of the Control Chamber Ishkhan Zakaryan said in his
annual report that 70% of the country's budget is in the shadow risk
area. This statement caused a wide public response. Recently Armenian
President Serzh Sargsyan strongly criticized Zakaryan and said that
the head of the Control Chamber has no right to assess the phenomena,
he only must demonstrate the facts the way the statistical service
does. The President also cast doubt on the data published by the
Control Chamber and instructed the Prosecutor General's Office to
puzzle out the facts of violations within 2 or 3 days. He added that
the parliamentary majority's behavior needs to be discussed separately
and hinted at the Parliament leadership's critical statements against
the Government after the Control Chamber had published the report.
