GIRO MANOYAN: TURKEY EVENTS COULD MARK THE START OF ERDOGAN'S DOWNFALL
16:02 03/07/2013 " TOPIC OF THE DAY
The Turkish Summer has nothing to do with the Arab Springs, Giro
Manoyan, Director of the ARF bureau's Hay Dat and political affairs
office, told a discussion at the Caucasus Institute.
"There can be some similarity, but there are a lot of differences,"
he added.
Turkey's protests were mostly directed against Prime Minister Erdogan,
who made a great influence on the entire country during the past ten
years, according to Manoyan.
The Turkey events, particularly the use of force against protesters,
can affect Turkey's position on the international arena, including
its relations with the European Union, Manoyan said.
"If Erdogan continues acting the same way, the Turkey events could mark
the start of his downfall," Manoyan said, adding that some changes
could take place inside the party headed by Erdogan, resulting in
the weakening of his positions.
