INITIALING OF ARMENIA-EU ASSOCIATION AGREEMENT MIGHT BE CALLED OFF - POLITICAL TECHNOLOGIST
July 04, 2013 | 13:26
YEREVAN. - Small countries such as Armenia, which have problematic
geopolitical positions and unfriendly neighbors, are always under
the influence of external forces.
Political technologist Karen Kocharyan stated the above-said during
a press conference on Thursday.
In his conviction, everything that is taking place in Armenia today
is occurring under the influence two primary factors.
"The first factor is the matter of the successor of the president of
the country, which is a domestic political issue. [The] second [factor]
is the selection between the EU and the Eurasian-or Customs-Union
vectors," Kocharyan stressed.
The political analyst noted that Armenia for a long time had stated
that Europe is its main direction and Russia applies pressure on
the country.
"In Poland, however [that is, during the talk between the Presidents
of Armenia and Poland], Europe made it clear that there cannot
be a precept of 'and...and,' but rather solely [a principle of]
'either...or.' I am convinced that if Europe announces about the
'and...and' principle, Russia would put forth the 'either...or' demand
[before Armenia]," the political technologist said.
Also, Karen Kocharyan did not rule out that, under the pretext of
a tense political situation in the country, Armenia's Association
Agreement with EU might not be initialed during the EU Eastern
Partnership summit to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania, in November.
