Jun 29, 2013 (LETA (Latvia National News Agency)

RIGA: The work of the Latvian-Armenian Intergovernmental Commission
on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation will
be productive and contribute to the development of Latvian-Armenian
cooperation, Latvian Economy Minister Daniels Pavluts and Armenian
Economy Minister Vahram Avanesyan, the commission's co-chairmen,
announced during the opening of its first session yesterday.

Pavluts emphasized that it is necessary to facilitate cooperation
within the framework of the Eastern Partnership, which will be among
Latvia's priorities during its presidency of the Council of the
    European Union in 2015.

Avanesyan in turn expressed hope that the Latvian-Armenian
Intergovernmental Commission and the Business Cooperation Council
will serve as a good basis for becoming familiar with the mutual
interests of Latvian and Armenian businessmen and will continue to
cooperate directly. The Armenia-European Union Free Trade Agreement,
which will expand opportunities for economic cooperation, is in the
final stages of negotiations, added the minister.

The commission also discussed various opportunities for promoting
bilateral economic cooperation in manufacturing, business activities,
information and communication technology, agriculture and fisheries,
health care, education, science, tourism, transport, culture, regional
development, environmental protection and other areas.
