YEREVAN. - Armenian State Migration Agency Chief Gagik Yeganyan told
Haykakan Zhamanak daily that from now on the statistics on border
crossings to and from the country will be made public on a quarterly
basis, the daily reports.
`That is, the figures with respect to those leaving from and those
arriving in Armenia will no longer be publicized once a month. [But]
this decision should be seen not so much a surprise. The problem is
that the aforementioned statistics enables to form an idea about the
volumes and trends of emigration.
`And since emigration is increasingly gaining greater momentum [in
Armenia], it was decided to `shut' this information as much as
possible and to lessen the frequency of the promulgations on the
volumes of emigration. It is not difficult to imagine the extent the
emigration [from the country] has reached,' Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
