YEREVAN, JULY 10, ARMENPRESS: The recent blockade of Aleppo put the
local population in danger of starvation. This was reported
to Armenpress by the employee of the Aleppo's Kantsasar Weekly
Zarmik Poghikyan. "Usually the nearby villages of Aleppo supply
the city with food - vegetables, fruits, dairy products, flour, but
because of the blockade it has been already seven days the food
supply has been suspended", - noted the Aleppo Armenian. As stated
by Zarmik Poghikyan, the rich markets of Aleppo are empty
now, major part of the shops are closed and very few bread shops are
open because of the lack of flour. The highways of the city are
closed, causing need for fuel and medicines and the majority of
medical workers have left the city. The electricity and water are
being often disconnected and the military collisions and
unpredictable explosions in the city threaten the peaceful
population.
"The Aleppo Armenian ambulance authorities and charitable
organizations continue assisting our compatriots supplying them
with food and different kinds of services - medical treatment to the
wounded, evacuation of the Aleppo Armenians from the collisions
areas", - added
the employee of the Aleppo's Kantsasar Weekly Zarmik Poghikyan.
By the UN data, during the two-year bloodshed in Syria by April 2013
more than 100 thousands of people have fallen victims. Currently 4,5
million refugees live in Syria and 1,5 million - in the neighboring
countries. Several tens of Armenians have been killed in the result
of the
collisions. Notwithstanding that difficult situation, many Syrian
Armenians continue leaving in Syria. The governmental forces try to
liberate
Aleppo from the opposition. Every day heated collisions and bombings
are taking place, causing sufferings of the peaceful population, the
Armenians as well. As a result of the recent explosions three
Armenians were wounded
