WINE PRODUCTION IN ARMENIA IN JANUARY-MAY 2013 INCREASED BY 24 PERCENT TO 1.982 MILLION LITERS
YEREVAN, July 10. / ARKA /.In the first five months of this year wine
production in Armenia increased by 24 percent fr om a year earlier
to 1.982 million liters, according to Avag Harutyunyan, the chairman
of the Union of Armenian Winemakers.
He said brandy production in the same time span decreased by 7% from
a year earlier to 6.2 million, production of vodka increased by 5%
to 3.2 million liters and production of champagne in the reporting
period increased threefold to 97,300 liters.
Production of beer fell by 5% to 4.5 million liters, down from 4.7
million liters in the same period of 2012. He said these figures do
not reflect the true picture because the full activity in this area
begins only in November and December.
Harutyunyan said this year's grape harvest is going to be
unprecedented, despite the expected 30% decline in Armavir region,
wh ere wineyards were damaged earlier this year by hailstorms. He
said the overall crop is expected to be 15% higher than in 2012.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, the
production of non-alcoholic beverages in January-May 2013 amounted
to 15.5 million liters, which was 45.5% more than in the same period
