YEREVAN, JULY 11, ARMENPRESSO~I The President of France Francois
Hollande should stop the double game played around the issue of the
adoption of the Armenian Genocide denial criminalizing law.
This was stated by the author of the genocide denial criminalizing law,
the French Parliament member Valérie Boyer in the interview given to
a Greek Newspaper. She noted that the French authorities now do not
even try to show that they are implementing practical steps. "Before
the presidential elections on April 24 2012 the President Francois
Hollande promised that the Armenian Genocide denial criminalizing
law will be adopted by April 24 2013. But wesee now that the promise
has not been fulfilled. Hollande has not kept his promise; moreover,
he shook hands with the president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the
Ã~Ilysée Palace. That double game should be stopped", - said Valérie
Boyer, as reported by Armenpress.
"The law would not cover only the Armenian Genocide, but it will
include all the genocides, recognized by France. At present France
has recognized two genocides - the Armenian and the Jewish.
Thegenocide denial criminalizing law should be adopted at the cost
of any sacrifice, as it is a political necessity. The Genocide issue
should be settled as soon as possible", - said the French Parliament
member.
"I have appealed to the Chairman of the National Assembly and different
political factions to re-discuss the genocide-related law and clarify
the position on the genocide denial", - stated the French Parliament
member Valérie Boyer, adding that she is following the works carried
out on that particular issue.
On December 23 2011 the National Assembly of France adopted the bill
of the French Parliament member Valérie Boyer. The bill envisions
a 45,000 euro fine and a year in prison for denial of crimes against
humanity, including the Armenian Genocide. After successful passage
of the bill in the French Parliament in December 2011, on January
23 of last year, the French Senate passed the bill criminalizing the
Armenian Genocide.
Later, the French Constitutional Council ruled that the bill was
unconstitutional.
