YEREVAN. - Armenian monuments have been leveled to the ground in
Nakhchivan, director of ICOMOS Armenia branch told reporters.
Gagik Gyurdjyan said they had failed to establish any contacts with
Azerbaijani experts, as the country has not been an ICOMOS member
since 2003.
"During the Karabakh war, Azerbaijan destroyed many Armenian churches
and turned them into mosques. Meanwhile, Armenia has not touched any
mosque in Karabakh," he said.
The contacts with Turkish side through ICOMOS are preserved, and it is
more important, taking into account the lack of diplomatic relations
between the states. This helps Armenian experts get acquainted wiith
the renovation projects of Armenian churches in Turkey or raise the
question of state of churches.
