YEREVAN, JULY 11, ARMENPRESS: President of the Republic of Armenia
Serzh Sargsyan who is in Moldova on official visit, on July 11
participated in the third summit of Eastern Partnership leaders of
European People's Party (EPP) where issues relating to agenda of
Eastern Partnership and preparation works of Vilnius summit were
discussed.
"Armenpress" was informed from Public relations and mass media
department of President's office that at the summit Serzh Sargsyan
performed with a speech. President of the Republic reverberated to
cooperation in framework of Eastern Partnership. In the context
of regional developments President spoke about inadmissibility
of Azerbaijani policy of making energy cooperation to energy
dictatorship when people compel to keep silence even in case of
democratic principles and human rights violations. Serzh Sargsyan
also reverberated to illegal blockade of Armenia stressing that closed
borders are contrary to essence of European Union.
Serzh Sargsyan in framework of the summit took part in joint press
conference where he reverberated to results of discussions and
introduced Armenia's positions on many important issues. President
considered discussions of the summit useful and constructive. He
highlighted that he is sure that the summit had its positive
contribution for implementation of EPP and Eastern Partnership aims.
"First of all I want to thank Moldovan side for hosting this
summit. Several months ago we hosted in Yerevan such event and we
are grateful Mr.
Martens for forming the tradition and format of the EPP Eastern
Partnership format.
One of most important elements of this process is the cooperation
with European political parties, making closer the political culture
and system of values. European People's Party has great role for
propagation of European identity, in deepening cooperation with
partner states.
Today we discussed Eastern Partnership agenda issues and issues
relating to preparation works of Vilnius summit. These are very
concrete issues for us. For efficient work Eastern Partnership must
be understandable for each citizen of partner states. We must ask
ourselves whether our this or that agreement facilitates the life of
a citizen, how it affects on the level of life of Moldovan, Armenian,
Ukrainian or Georgian citizen. No matter it is a economic progress,
security issue or political stability our citizens must see clearly
what they got from that process.
During more than four year existence of Eastern Partnership the
cooperation shows that it includes great potential for deepening
regional cooperation. We see Eastern Partnership as an initiative
which creates cooperation and not contradictions; it is not directed
against a country or a group of countries. This partnership is aimed
to overcome dividing lines.
In framework of Eastern Partnership Armenia greatly stress the
importance of ending the practice of closed borders. Deep and
comprehensive free trade area agreement which is being negotiated with
European Union cannot function fully if Armenian-Turkish border is
closed as it is in present. We think that EU must seriously reverberate
to closed borders as in case of their existence the trade cannot be
efficient," mentioned Serzh Sargsyan.
