Orthodox church in Trabzon being rapidly converted into a mosque

Hagia Sophia church in Trabzon has just started being used as a
mosque. According to newsru.com first namaz has already been carried
out.
As Mazhar Yildirimkhan, director of a supervision department of a
museum of Hagia Sophia announced the temple is still used as a museum,
except 5 times a day when namaz is done. Frescos are covered with
carpets and curtains and no nails are used so that even minimal damage
is not caused.
Small Christian community of Trabzon tried to keep the temple that has
been used as a museum for the last 52 years.
Hagia Sophia in Trabzon is monument of Byzantine architecture. Unique
frescoes and mosaics have survived there. The cathedral was built in
mid 13th century. In 1461Mehmed II invaded Trabzon and converted the
cathedral into a mosque. In 1964, the former cathedral after
restoration works of Edinburgh University became a museum.
