GOVERNOR APPOINTS TALAR ALEXANIAN AS STUDENT TRUSTEE
LONG BEACH, Calif., July 12 -- California State University issued the
following news release:
Governor Jerry Brown has announced the appointment of Talar Alexanian
to the California State University Board of Trustees.
Alexanian is a student at CSU Northridge, pursuing a degree in
journalism and public relations. She has served as vice-president of
CSUN Associated Students since 2013 and was an upper-division senator
from 2012 to 2013. Alexanian has been a student representative for the
CSU Admission Advisory Council since 2012 and was an events assistant
at the CSUN Matador Involvement Center from 2011 to 2013. She was an
intern for Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Krekorian in 2010 and a
public relations and media intern for the Armenian National Committee
of America in 2010. She is a member of the National Society of
Collegiate Scholars, the National Society of Leadership and Success
and the Public Relations Student Society of America.
The appointment is for a two-year term. Alexanian will serve as the
non-voting student trustee in her first year and assume the voting
student trustee position in her second year. The current voting
student trustee is Cipriano Vargas. Trustees do not receive a salary
for their service to the university - with exceptions for the
chancellor and the faculty trustee.
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance of the
23-campus system. Under present law there are 25 Trustees (24 voting,
one non-voting). Five Trustees are ex officio members: the Governor,
the Lieutenant Governor, the Speaker of the Assembly, the State
Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Chancellor.
