Experts say horticulture has development potential in Armenia

YEREVAN. - According to research carried out by experts, the vineyards
and the fruit and berry plantations are increasing in Armenia, and
this indicates the potential for the development of horticulture in
the country.
The fruit and berry plantations in Armenia grew by 53 percent and the
vineyards, by 33 percent in 2012, as compared to 2003. Such progress
is probably due to the development of the processing industry in the
country.
As per the businesses in this sector, horticulture in Armenia has
great potential for development in the next five years, too.
Nonetheless, the productivity level in this sector is still quite low
as compared with other countries in the region; this is primarily
explained by the present-day low level in using technologies in this
sector. It turns out that solely one-fifth of Armenia's large farms
make use of any relevant technology.
