TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran lashed out at the former US ambassador to Baku who
predicted an Egypt-like fate for Azerbaijan, and advised Washington
not to interfere in the regional countries' internal affairs.

"We are opposed to any meddling of other states in the internal
affairs of any country and advise the Americans to avoid interference
and peculiar analyses which increase internal tensions," Iranian
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Araqchi told reporters in
    Tehran on Tuesday.

He blasted the remarks by the former US diplomat who had predicted
an Egyptian fate for Azerbaijan, and said, "If the American officials
could have made such predictions, they would have certainly been far
ahead of others in regional issues."

Iran has recently enhanced efforts to boost political, economic,
security and cultural ties and cooperation with the regional and
neighboring countries, specially the Central Asian states.

In October, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad traveled to Baku to
attend the 12th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization. The
summit was held at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku.

The Iranian and Azeri presidents met on the sidelines of ECO Summit,
where the two leaders underlined the need for rigid efforts to expand
bilateral relations and widen mutual cooperation.
