AZERI STUDIES EXPERT ON AZERBAIJAN'S DOMESTIC POLITICAL SITUATION

There has never been an intrigue in Azerbaijan's domestic political
life, but the situation has changed a little now, Azeri studies
expert Sargis Asatryan told reporters in Yerevan in commenting on
the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan.
Some interesting figures have entered Azerbaijan's political field,
he said.
"As we know, National Council was established in Azerbaijan recently.
The Council, which involves some democratic forces, representatives
of NGOs and human rights defenders, has become the so-called driving
force of the opposition, nominating film director Rustam Ibrahimbekov
as a common candidate against Ilham Aliyev," Sargsyan said.
According to the expert, time showed, however, that he is unlikely
to be a serious rival to Aliyev because he lacks charisma and
determination.
