THESSALONIKI, GYUMRI SET TO EXPAND COOPERATION

    15:00 16/07/2013 " SOCIETY

The cooperation between Thessaloniki and Gyumri needs to be expanded,
particularly in the field of culture, as noted at a meeting of
Deputy Speaker of Armenian National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov and
    Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris.

The head of the Armenian community in Thessaloniki and Charge
d'Affaires of the Greek Embassy in Armenia also attended the meeting.

Eduard Sharmazanov noted that development of cooperation between
Thessaloniki and Gyumri will give a new quality to Armenian-Greek
relations. The Mayor of Thessaloniki said that Thessaloniki will
assume the title of European Youth Capital in 2014.

The parties also spoke of the Armenian Genocide. They noted that the
best way to prevent genocide is to condemn it. The NA Deputy Speaker
highlighted the need to jointly combat racism, xenophobia and fascism.
