YEREVAN. - Air Arabia will start flights to Yerevan from Sharjah,
UAE, starting from August 16, company's Corporate Communications
Manager Housam Raydan said.
Yerevan is to become the 86th destination of the company, he added,
speaking to the media inYerevan on Tuesday. The company will operate
2 roundtrip flights weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays. The flights
will be realized by Airbus A320, which is the sole aircraft of the
company's fleet.
"We do not compromise at all when it comes to safety and timeliness.
As for on-board comfort, we do not have first or business class, but
our economy class has the largest seat pitch in the world, which is
32 inches", he said.
Although the company positions itself as a no-frills airline,
passengers are allowed to take up to 30 kg of free luggage - an option
not available with other low-cost competitors, Raydan added.
He chose not to comment on competing airlines, including FlyDubai,
which also flies form UAE o Yerevan.
"We believe there's a big potential for the Armenian market to grow
it can take more than two airlines".
Another advantage of the company, he added, is a large network
of routes, including 13 cities in India alone and 25 in Indian
subcontinent.
"That is good news for 2,000 Indian students staying in Yerevan. Now
they can fly via Sharjah to a variety of cities in India, as close to
their hometown as possible". On the other way round, the company has
additionally advertised Armenia to Indian customers on the occasion
of opening the new flight.
Besides, Sharjah, a regional transit hub, may serve a number of
destinations in South and Southwest Asia, Raydan added.
Roundtrip flight from Yerevan to Sharjah will cost $175 per person
until the end of October. Towards the New Year the price is supposed
to rise to, but not exceeding, $300-odd.
