BAKU. July 17
Baku welcomes the idea of arranging a new meeting between the Azeri and
Armenian presidents to discuss the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict, Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said.
"Azerbaijan favors the organization of such a meeting, as it did
before," Mammadyarov said at a joint press conference with Turkish
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu following their bilateral meeting
in Baku.
The mediators' proposal on holding a presidential meeting this year
was among the issues the Azeri and Armenian foreign ministers discussed
recently with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe
(OSCE) Minsk Group co-chairs in Vienna, he said.
Talking about prospects of settling the conflict, the minister noted
that the Azeris and Armenians living in the same region should reach
an agreement on coexistence. "The Azeri and Armenian communities
should build bridges between each other," he said.
"But what matters most is that the Armenian troops should leave the
occupied Azeri land and then we might achieve peace," he said.
