YEREVAN, JULY 18, ARMENPRESS: The deputy of the Australia's New South
Wales Parliament Frederick Nile appeals to operate the Stepanakert
Airport and respect the rights of the Artsakh people to move freely and
securely. As reported by Armenpress, this was stated by the Australian
deputy at the press conference of the delegation of the Australia's
New South Wales Parliament held on July 18. "It is a great honor
for us to be here in Armenia. During our yesterday's visit to the
Nagorno Karabakh Republic quite an important circumstance attracted
my attention - the isolation of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic from
the world. The construction works of the Stepanakert Airport have
already been completed but it has never operated. It is necessary
to create an open communication opportunity for the Artsakh people,
thus contributing to the development of the industry and, why not,
tourism of the Republic", - said Frederick Nile.
The Parliament member David Clarke was impressed by the endurance and
courage of the Karabakh people. "That brave nation managed to build
a developed and prosperous country on the ruins", - said David Clarke
to the journalists.
The Chairman of the Armenian-Australian Parliamentary Friendship
Group of the Australia's New South Wales Parliament Jonathan O'Dea
in his turn noted that the nation of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic
has developed much, responding to all the challenges with dignity.
The Australian Armenian deputy, the Minister of Transport of the New
South Wales Gladys Berejiklian as well was impressed by the development
in Artsakh. She highlighted the visit by the fact that from now on the
parliamentarians would be able to prove the development progress of
the Nagorno Karabakh Republic in the international platforms and pass
their impressions to their partners from Australia and other countries.
The delegation of the Australian parliamentarians, who arrived in
Armenia on July 12, held high-level meetings with the President of the
Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, the President of the National
Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan, the Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan,
as well as His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and
Catholicos of All Armenians, the President of the Artsakh Republic
Bako Sahakyan and other high ranking officials. Issues related to
the further strengthening of the Armenian-Australian cooperation
were discussed. Earlier the ANC Australia Executive Director Vache
Kahramanian expressed his hope that the meetings will give a new
impetus to the Armenian-Australian political, economic and cultural
relations.
The largest state of Australia - New South Wales - on April 17

Ottoman Empire, characterizing them as the first Genocide of the 20th
century. On May 1 and June 8 2013 the Parliament adopted the motions
on recognizing the genocides of the Assyrians and Greeks and the
motion on re-establishing of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
