JEWISH INTELLECTUALS NEED TO HAVE IMPACT ON ISRAELI PARLIAMENT IN ARMENIAN GENOCIDE RECOGNITION - MINISTER HAKOBYAN

    July 19, 2013 | 16:57

YEREVAN. - The Jewish people have felt the pain of the genocide and
they should be the first to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

Armenia's Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan stated the abovementioned
during her talk Friday with Yair Auron-renowned Israeli historian,
scholar and expert specializing on Holocaust and Genocide studies-and
Yair Tzaban-Israeli Knesset (Parliament) former member, former Minister
    of Immigrant Absorption of Israel.

Also, the minister congratulated Auron on the publication of the
Armenian version of his book, entitled The Banality of Indifference,
which is about the Jewish Holocaust and the Armenian Genocide.

"It is important that the Jewish intellectuals have an impact on the
Israeli Knesset, with a demand for the recognition of the Armenian
Genocide. Our two peoples have many similarities, and therefore-and
by putting out forces together-we need to make the world better,"
    the minister said.

In addition, Hakobyan informed Auron and Tzaban about the activities of
the Diaspora Ministry, and the events being organized in the lead-up
to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

"What your ministry does is worthy of praise; this is an important
thing to say to the international community, which must recognize
the Armenian Genocide. With a variety of initiatives, we can make
our voices heard in the world and achieve the desired result," Yair
Auron specifically noted in his turn.

At the end of the talk, Hranush Hakobyan presented to the Israeli
guests the Diaspora Ministry's books devoted to the Armenian Genocide.
