Russian citizens of Armenian descent posted a petition on the Internet,
demanding the resignation of Chairman of Russian Armenians Ara Abrahamian.
The petition in particular reads:
`When the founding congress of the Union of Russian Armenians was held in
Moscow on June 16, 2000, Armenians hoped that all the Armenians would
finally unite and the link between the Diaspora and Armenia would
strengthen. 13 years have passed and the name of the organization as a
`concert and banquet office' serving only Russia's ruling party has
strengthened. It is no accident that the union is often called `Union of
Abrahamian in the Russian Federation'.
As Russian citizens, we are concerned about the future of the country we
live in and with this aim we make contribution to the development and
prosperity of this country by living here, paying taxes, serving in the
army, and so on.
It is time to make demands to the Union of Russian Armenians and Ara
Abrahamian personally and we expect clear answers from them:
1. Why doesn't the Union give an adequate response to anti-Armenian reports
that regularly appear in the Russian press?
2. Why don't violations of Armenians' rights receive an adequate assessment
of the Union's central staff?
3. Why, don't they think about promotion of the Armenian language and
culture, while taking measures on promotion of the Russian language?
4. Why didn't the Union's central staff react adequately to the decision to
dismantle Monument to Commander Andranik in Sochi?'
The full text of the petition (in Armenian) is available on the Internet.
