`My program covers all genres of the music, except for rabiz'

    July 20 2013

Singer Anna Mayilyan about her old and new collective Anna Mayilyan,
an honored artist of the republic of Armenia, a singer on the stage
for over 20 years, is a welcome guest for the Armenian audience, as
well as for foreigners. The ensemble `Masters' founded by her over 15
years ago, whose works lasted for about 7 years, figuratively
speaking, was going to a concert tour to the western states in 12
months a year. Moreover, by the invitation of not the Diaspora but by
other authoritative concert organizations, presenting mainly sacred
music, Komitas, traditional songs and folk arts, as well as the works
of Armenian contemporary composers. It's been a few years since Anna
Mayilyan has founded a `Mayilyan' vocal trio, whose mission is the
same, spreading the songs of the Armenian authors in various genres of
music in Armenia and abroad. Recently, `Aravot' was present at the
`Mayilyan' vocal trio (Anna Mayilyan, Armine Khachatryan, Eva Eganyan)
concert (in the photo) at the Cafesjian Center of the Arts. As always,
the program as well designed and organized, including almost all
genres of the music. We believe that the singer was not surprised at
exceedingly warm attitude by the audiences, which was expressed in
bravos and encores. At the end of the evening, we met with the singer.
Half-jokingly and half-serious we asked whether there is a genre in
the music that has not been addressed. The famous artist's answer was
brief and precise: `I always refer to all genres of the music, except
for rabiz.' We asked the singer to eventually explain why the `Master'
ensemble ended, and the activities of the vocal trio launched. The
`Masters' was a project, which, of course, had a beginning and an
end,'- said our interlocutor, adding that for the trio the songs are
presented as a cappella, three-voiced, sometimes piano musical
accompany becomes a necessity. Introducing the two members of the
trio, she emphasized that Armine is her graduate students, currently
studying at the Yerevan Komitas conservatory, in her classroom, and
Eva is the 3rd prize winner of `National Singer' project over `Shant»
TV. During the conversation, we discovered that the trio performed in
the U.S in spring, and it is not the collective's first concert tour
abroad. To our observation of having non-public status, the overseas
tours of Anna Mayilyan's `Masters' and `Mayilyan' vocal trio seems not
to be a problem ..., the singer stated that in the beginning of her
career, the tours have not been a super goal for her. `Simply, my name
was registered by many foreign agencies, the number of my CDs, 15 of
them, did their job ... This is the reason of frequent travels of the
vocal trio recently.' To the replica whether it ever occurred in her
mind to see the trio in the state status, especially when the
collective is the only one of its kind in the field of Armenian music,
Anna Mayilyan said, smiling,- `Who would refuse such an honor...?'
