    Armenian observatory records secret nuclear explosions

    YEREVAN. - A station of IRIS Global Seismographic Network has been
    function in the fourth pit of Garni geophysical observatory since
    1991. The station belongs to Seismic Protection Service of the
    Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

    The station records all major earthquakes all over the globe, and is
    also used to record all secret nuclear explosions. The data is
    transmitted via satellite to the U.S. (Albuquerque), Austria (Vienna)
    and is available for seismic protection.

    Only IRIS seismic station as well as observation stations which are
    monitoring magnetic and radon measurement are functioning in Garni.
    Other devices are not working virtually.

    At present, a comprehensive program of geological and geophysical
    studies has been elaborated in the area of Garni fold. The experts
    expect that observatory will be renovated. The issue is included as a
    priority in action plan of Armenian government for 2013.
