THIS IS NOT LEGAL MATTER BUT CLASSIC SOCIAL RIOT
The co-founder of ArmComedy Sergey Sargsyan transports people by his
car from Nor Nork to Komitas Street in the morning as an action of
protest against the raise of fare.
Sergey, you joined the action against expensive fare. Is this a
process of disobedience and self-organization which did not happen
when the gas price went up?
Maybe but I perceive it in a broader context. Any such crisis can
be used as an opportunity to achieve social change. Drivers riding
an empty car should give a ride to some people to work, and I want
to establish this culture. I want a driver (like me) offer people
standing at the bus stop to ride together, and it should not frighten
people and cause a reaction to something alien. I hope it will be a
long-term culture, not a one-day act.
Do you think there will be "Taron, That's Not Nice 2"? There is
an opinion that this is not a fight for social problems but legal
consciousness is rising.
"Taron, That's Not Nice" was not a bad option, all the sides
benefited. Now it is too early to say what will happen. I think it is
not a legal matter but a classic social riot which usually accompanies
soaring of prices. It may affect legal awareness.
A lot of people are saying that at last the Facebook community is
organized and is taking actions apart from posting statuses. What
changes do you see?
Not changes but more thorough developments of activism. Activism stops
being a homogenous process, and like in any other field, the adequate
people who want change and the inadequate people who ensure the noise,
provoke and throw coins at officials are differentiated. I enjoy this
accelerated evolution and development of images of people and I think
a lot more is still going to change, and activism will obtain a lot
of new shades of which we will try to pick up the useful ones.
Sergey, I have just been in a company where people wondered why people
did not protest against increase of gas, bread, electricity prices
before fare increase. Could this be against Taron Margaryan as we
know that almost all the public transport routes are run by him and
his relatives?
It is possible, everything is possible. In any case, it is necessary
to direct this chaos in a positive direction, change the quality of
people a little. I have tried to introduce this culture of giving
each other a ride, and people always took it badly... Nobody expects
anything good from a stranger. This is the issue.
Sergey, you look at everything through humor. How would you describe
the current situation?
I'd describe the situation as abundance of inspiration for humor and
I very much regret that we are on leave now...
