HAYKAKAN ZHAMANAK: KARABAKH WAR HEROES START PROTEST IN GYUMRI
09:37 26.07.13
Heroes of the Nagorno-Karabakh war organized Thursday a sit-in protest
in the second largest city of Gyumri, urging for government efforts
to improve their social conditions, the paper has learned.
Veteran heroes from capital Yerevan also joined the protest to make
their voices heard. The paper says they are going to rally in Yerevan
on Monday to express their support to Khachik Avetisyan, another war
hero who has been hunger-striking for several days.
Avetisyan had earlier said that he would suspend the protest on July
28 in case 10,000 people gather in the square to support him. It
is quite a long time the veteran hero has been holding a protest,
complaining of his social conditions, says the paper. Prime Minister
Tigran Sargsyan, who recently hosted the heroes, have them certain
promises, asking them to wait for a month, the paper says, adding
that the strong efforts have not yet yielded any result.
