YEREVAN, JULY 25, ARMENPRESS: Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia
Tifran Sargsyan on July 25 hosted members of central department of
Homenetmen who arrived in Armenia on occasion holding the 9 th sports
games. "Armenpress" reports that greeting the guests and stressing
the importance of the role of the body Prime Minister mentioned that
always is pleasure to meet young people of Homenetmen. "We are sure
that the work of keeping patriotic spirit is implemented by you in
a best way. I assure that government of the Republic of Armenia will
do its best in order you are bale to implement that mission as well
as possible," said the leader of the government.
Homenetmen Lebaonon branch head Garnik Mkrtichyan introduced to Prime
Minister Sargsyan the participants of the meeting and highlighted
that their aim is to make Diaspora Armenian young people to visit
Armenia. The members of central department of Homenetmen thanked
Tigran Sargsyan for the support to organization of sports games. They
highly estimated the activities of the commission formed by order of
Prime minister in direction of expansion and construction of living
territories.
Stressing the role of Armenian parties in Diaspora the leader of
the government stressed the importance of strength of Armenian
Revolutionary Federation. "It implements great mission. We are
interested that our traditional parties are always strong as there
is no alternative to them in Armenian keeping mission," said Sargsyan.
Homenetmen was founded in 1918 in Constantinople by Shavarsh Krissian,
Hovhannes Hintliyan, and Krikor Hagopian. The first Homenetmen
Executive Committee was formed on December 16, 1918. Four Homenetmen
chapters were soon opened in various Constantinople neighborhoods.
On July 20, 1920, the founding members of Homenetmen were officially
invited to the independent Democratic Republic of Armenia to share
expertise regarding athleticism and Scouting with the Republic's
government. The Homenetmen Executive Committee sent Vahan Cheraz,
Dikran Khoyan, and Onig Yazmajian to the meeting. Although initially
successful in their efforts to spread Homenetmen's athletic and
scouting movement within Armenia, Homenetmen later was banned from
Armenia after change of regime and the establishment of Armenian
SSR in 1921. In 1922, the Homenetmen chapters in Constantinople were
forced to close their doors, with the organization's leaders dispersing
throughout the world.
