FOREIGN INVESTMENTS TO ARMENIA DECLINING STEADILY - NEWSPAPER
June 01, 2013 | 08:14
YEREVAN. - In line with the bulletin which the National Statistical
Service has issued, the foreign investments to Armenia's economy have
dropped by 12 percent in the first quarter of this year, as compared
to the same period last year, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reports.
"At the same time, direct foreign investments declined by more than
35 percent. According to official data, the foreign investments had
dropped by 8 percent last year, too, as compared to the previous year.
But the official data with respect to foreign investments can no
longer be considered credible. The problem is that an investment of
$200 million was registered in the last quarter of 2012, which [i.e.,
the investment] as if the French had made in the telecommunications
sector, but it turned out to be a lie.
So, it can be argued that the foreign investments [to Armenia] have
reduced more than it is officially presented," Haykakan Zhamanak
writes.
