YEREVAN EXPLAINS PRESIDENT'S DECISION TO MISS CSTO SUMMIT BY NATIONAL HOLIDAY

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan's refusal to attend a recent
informal summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO)
in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek was not a demarche, Armenia's National
Security Council Secretary Artur Bagdasaryan said.
"Any demarche is out of the question. The president did not come to
Bishkek because Republic Day was marked in Armenia on May 28, and the
head of state took part in the festivities," he said at a press
conference on Thursday.
CSTO colleagues were informed of Sargsyan's decision, he said.
"The president's decision to miss the state events in favor of the
summit would have provoked more speculation," Bagdasaryan said.
