YEREVAN. - Russia is considered Armenia's strategic ally, but, in
practice, steps are taken that aim at weakening Armenia.
The "Let's prevent gas price hike!" initiative member Argishti Kiviryan
stated the abovementioned during Wednesday's demonstration that was
staged across the Russian Embassy in Armenia (PHOTOS).
"In the whole world they always try to strengthen a strategic ally.
But Russia's steps are always aimed at weakening Armenia, and this is
not the first case. Russia is step by step increasing [the price of]
its energy supplies for Armenia," Kiviryan added.
In her turn, initiative member Silva Adamyan said they are trying to
stop the increase in the prices of the Russian natural gas that is
supplied to Armenia, and to even reduce these prices.
Reading the initiative's letter that was addressed to the embassy,
initiative member and ex-presidential candidate Andreas Ghukasyan
said one out of every three Armenian citizens lives in poverty,
and the expected gas price hike will result in widespread increase
in the prices of other goods, and this will lead to social unrest,
civil disobedience, and rebellion.
