ARMENIA'S AVIATION SPHERE IS BEING LIBERALIZED
Government of Armenia is shifting to open skies policy. The concept
note on the liberalization of air transport was introduced at today's
session of the government.
Chief of Civil Aviation adjunct to the government, Artyom Movsisyan
told reporters that the state is not going to sponsor any air company
and the field will be free for all companies because sponsorship brings
about the deterioration of the competitive field. Asked how the state
sponsored Armavia, the official said that according to the agreement
between the government of Armenia and Armavia, other companies would
be allowed to enter the field, only after Armavia rejected to carry
out that flight.
According to the concept note, three groups of airways will be set up
and competition in this regard will be held. Exceptionally Armenian
companies will take part in the competition. But the companies may
have also foreign shareholders.
In the result of the competition to be held in a month, three
companies will be able to work for five years. If they result unable
to work without the state's support, they will be replaced by foreign
companies.
Artyom Movsisyan said that further competitions will be held to
enlarge the geography of airways.
