June 06, 2013 | 02:26
YEREVAN. - In line with official statistics, a total of 733 road
accidents were recorded in Armenia from January to April 2013.
The aforesaid indicator is 18 percent higher than the number that
was recorded during the same period last year.
As a result of these road accidents, a total of 74 people died
and 1,045 others sustained injuries between January and April of
this year. The increase makes up 10.4 percent and 19.2 percent,
respectively, as compared to the same period last year.
To note, over 271,000 automobiles were imported to Armenia from 2001
to 2012, and the majority of these vehicles were used cars. But it
is believed that the primary cause of these road accidents is the
violation of traffic rules-especially speeding-, and not the technical
condition of the cars.
