Los Angeles - Kim Kardashian took a swab test on Monday to see if
she is a bone marrow match for her cousin Cici, who urgently needs
a transplant.
The reality TV star, who is set to give birth to her first child next
month, and her mother Kris Jenner filmed short videos for their Keek
profiles of themselves taking saliva samples to be tested, after
issuing several appeals in support of Cici, who has been battling
cancer for 17 years and recently stopped responding to chemotherapy.
The 32-year-old beauty said in the video: "I am going to try and
see if I am a perfect DNA match for Cici, because she needs a bone
marrow transplant."
She also encouraged her fans to take the test to see if they are a
match for Cici or anyone else seeking a bone marrow transplant, adding:
"We are going to see if I am a match. I hope you guys can do this,
it's so easy, it's just a little swab to the cheek."
Kourtney appeals to fans Kourtney issued an appeal to her fans to
support Cici in February.
The 34-year-old reality star wrote on her blog: "My cousin Cici
recently found out that after 17 years of battling cancer, her body
has stopped responding to the chemotherapy and she desperately needs
a bone marrow stem cell transplant.
"Because Cici is of Armenian descent she needs to receive bone marrow
from an Armenian donor, which means the pool of options is a lot
smaller and she's having a difficult time finding a match.
"We are asking that any of you who are Armenian, have Armenian friends
or extended family members consider signing up as a donor at the bone
marrow registry, in hopes that we can find a match for Cici and give
our beloved cousin many more years to live."
Kourtney explained that the procedure to donate marrow is quick and
nonsurgical and is similar to giving blood.
She said: "Because Cici is 100% Armenian the need for an Armenian
donor is the most important. "

Kim Kardashian takes cancer test for cousin
Kim Kardashian takes a mouth swab as she highlights the plight of
her cancer-stricken cousin.
The caring star and her manager mum, Kris Jenner, have both filmed
videos to show what's required to join the register of bone marrow
donors.
Her beloved relative Cici has been battling cancer for 17 years but
has now become resistant to chemotherapy drugs.
Kim said: "I'm going to do a swab so I can see if I'm a perfect DNA
match for Cici because she needs a stem cell, bone marrow transplant."
"We are going to see if I am a match. I hope you guys can do this,
it's so easy, it's just a little swab to the cheek."
Cici, who runs the Kardashians Kahos store in Las Vegas, requires an
Armenian donor since she is of Armenian descent.
But despite a huge Kardashian klan, none of Kim's relatives are
eligible.
She explained on her blog: "Only 25% of patients with cancer find
donors within their families. The other 75% of patients' lives depend
on finding a perfectly matched unrelated donor."
The simple test takes less than thirty seconds, and once the saliva
sample has been sent back with a registration form, doctors in the
US will search the databases for potential matches for their patients.
In the UK, people between the ages of 18 and 49 can sign up when they
donate blood.
Providing bone marrow can help people suffering with diseases of the
immune system like leukaemia and aplastic anaemia.
