40 REPRESENTATIVES OF "GEORGIAN MAFIA" ARE ARRESTED IN FRANCE

    Wed, 06/05/2013 - 15:54
    International news

On Tuesday, the French police arrested 40 representatives of the
    so-called "Georgian mafia".

"Ewsru.com" - said the police action was carried out in the cities
of Marseille and Nice, and, at the same time, a number of arrests
have been made in Bordeaux, Lyon and Paris.

Money, gold, weapons, false documents and cigarettes were confiscated
    from the arrestees.

Arrestees are suspected in credit card fraud, armed attacks,
robberies, beatings of people, engagement in the trade of counterfeit
goods. Besides that, they controlled Georgian emigrant organization,
    being their "protector".

The investigation began in early 2011. A criminal named Arthur,
who is also arrested, is considered the head of the Georgian criminals.

The criminal case was conducted by the Organized Crime Bureau, in
the structure of which has been set up and now operates a specialized
study of the Georgian criminal activity, "Interfax" informs.

According to the French police, "Georgian mafia" appeared in Western
Europe after the collapse of USSR. It is the most active in France.

Georgian criminal groups are characterized by good organization and
    strict ranking.

Staying true to Soviet traditions, Georgian criminal groups are headed
by "thieves in law", while the bulk of the income is delivered to
    Georgia, where their "Godfathers" are.

Post also notes that the French police had already implemented a
large-scale operation to hinder the activities of criminal groups
that came out of the CIS. At that time in Paris and Lyon, 20 citizens
of Georgia and Armenia were arrested, and hundreds of robberies in
cities of France were committed by them, "ITAR-TASS" reports.
