The Friendship Group of the Armenian National Assembly is the biggest
in the Latvia's parliament: 34 deputies are involved in it. Said the
Speaker of the Latvian Saeima Solvita Aboltina during June 4 meeting
with the Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly and added that
Friendship Groups contribute to the deepening of cooperation between
    the parliaments.

Latvian Saeima Speaker praised the pace of Armenia-EU relations
and expressed readiness to transmit Latvian experience in European
Integration. Solvita Aboltina gave importance to the economic
    development.

According to the Public and Media Relations Department of the National
Assembly, Hovik Abrahamyan expressed confidence that the cooperation
based on friendly relations between the two countries will further
strengthen and develop. From the perspective of interstate relations,
the Speaker gave importance to the development and strengthening
of inter-parliamentary relations. He noted with satisfaction that
Armenian-Latvian political agenda was quite full, which clearly shows
the bilateral desire for the development of relations.

Hovik Abrahamyan believes that parliamentary diplomacy plays an
important role in international relations. He said that Latvian
parliamentary friendship group operates in the National Assembly and
its efficient work promotes cooperation between the two states. The
Speaker noted that Armenia attaches great importance to cooperation
with the EU and that Armenia-EU relations are quite full.

Armenian parliament head expressed confidence that the pre-signing of
Association Agreement during Vilnius Summit will give new impetus to
bilateral relations. "Armenia attaches great importance to the Eastern
Partnership Summit to be held in Vilnius in November this year, which
would be a significant milestone in EU relations with Eastern partners
for further development. On May 16, Armenia assumed the chairmanship
of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. It is a big
responsibility and, at the same time, the opportunity to make our own
contribution to overcoming challenges facing the organization. Today,
when Latvia has already begun to prepare for 2015 EU presidency, I
want to assure in Armenia's readiness and willingness to be actively
engaged in the process of formation of the Eastern Partnership agenda,
    "said the Speaker.

For the promotion of trade and economic cooperation, the two sides
stressed the importance of the activities of Armenian-Latvian
intergovernmental commission and the organization of first session
to be held in late June in Riga.

During the meeting they discussed the regional issues, the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement and Armenian-Turkish relations.

Sides expressed hope that the conflicts should be resolved peacefully
through negotiations. Hovik Abrahamyan noted that in 2015 is the 100th
anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and expressed hope that Latvia,
as more than two dozen countries around the world, will recognize and
condemn the crime committed not only against the Armenians, but also
    against humanity.
