Mistrust between Baku, Yerevan impedes Karabakh conflict settlement - expert

    BAKU. June 7

The lack of trust between the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents is
the reason for no progress in the Karabakh conflict settlement,
Matthew Bryza, former co-chairman of the Minsk group of the
Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)
    representing the United States, said.

Bryza said that in his opinion there was no progress in the talks so
far not because co-chairmen did not aspire it, but because the
countries did not treat the issue seriously. Bryza said that it
referred to the mistrust between the Azerbaijani and Armenian
    presidents.

The U.S. president's administration has to help creating trust between
    the two sides, Bryza said.

Bryza said that it would be difficult to discuss this before the
presidential elections in Azerbaijan because presidents and candidates
    were conservative ahead of elections.

Bryza said he hoped that the U.S. role and involvement in the talks on
the Karabakh conflict settlement would increase.
