The public opinion polls in Azerbaijan and Armenia, parties to the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, have shown that in Azerbaijan, unlike
Armenia, a large part of the population does not believe the conflict
may be solved by peaceful means.
These are the summarized results of the survey "Caucasus Barometer",
conducted by the Caucasus Research Resource Center in Armenia,
Azerbaijan and Georgia in 2009, 2011 and 2012, it was announced by
head of the Center Gursel Aliyev at a conference on Azerbaijan-EU
relation on Friday, 1news.az reports.
The polls also showed that both in Azerbaijan and in Armenia, people
have no idea how soon it is possible to achieve resolution to the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The poll results in Azerbaijan were much more optimistic: ¼ of
respondents believe that conflict resolution is possible within the
next 2-5 years.
In both countries, the majority of respondents consider that Russia
needs to engage in conflict resolution more closely. In Azerbaijan, a
large percentage of population wants to see Turkey as a mediator.
