STEREOTYPED AND STUPID MENTALITY SUSTAINS LOSSES

Ethnographer Aghasi Tadevosyan dwelt on the events in Goris upon the
request of Lragir.am. He noted that the incident in Goris is a usual
Armenian conflict between men, and not necessarily one should be a
criminal to be in such a conflict and kill someone. According to him,
the main problem is that the Armenian society is patriarchal. Aghasi
Tadevosyan says that patriarchal rules are mixed with traditional
and criminal ones in Armenia. Large part of Armenian men forms their
status in environments of men and closed groups. There are rules
for forming and losing the status and if one respects the rules,
their status increases, says Aghasi Tsadevosyan.

In Goris, according to the ethnographer, two provincial men, living
in accord with the rules of traditional criminal groups, clashed and
in order to keep their statuses they resorted to the armed conflict.

Aghasi Tadevosyan adds that the reason of such phenomenon is the
stereotypical and stupid mentality of the society. He says that we
can get rid of this situation once a woman with no such a mentality
is elected president in Armenia. But, in Armenia women too bear and
reproduce this mentality. There are also women who don't accept it.

But I don't think we will have a female president in the far future,
    says Tadevosyan.

According to him, the main lack is the application of law, when
for example one could report his or her neighbor for insulting and
the neighbor would be punished for their behavior. But this seems
impossible in Armenia. Another possibility for the change of the
situation, Aghasi Tadevosyan says, is the change of the composition
of the Armenian population, when other nationalities would be at
    least 30% of the population.
