AZERBAIJAN'S GREATEST PROBLEMS ARE WITH RUSSIA - ARMENIAN POLITICAL SCIENTIST
June 12, 2013 | 14:28
YEREVAN. - An unprecedented domestic political situation is brewing
in Azerbaijan and, first and foremost, this is expressed by President
Ilham Aliyev's running for a third term in office.
Caucasus Institute Deputy Director, political analyst Sergey Minasyan
noted the abovementioned during a press conference on Wednesday.
According to him, Azerbaijan's difference with Georgia, Armenia, and
Nagorno-Karabakh-and in terms of carrying out democratic reforms-is
quite apparent.
"When the president of the neighboring country prepares for a third
presidential term, this means the country politically departs from
South Caucasus and turns into something deep in Central Asia,"
Minasyan noted.
He added that Azerbaijan's socioeconomic problems in connection with
a reduction in the oil sales revenue likewise reflect on what is
happening in the country.
Also, the analyst invited attention on Azerbaijan's foreign political
problems, which are due to the country's deteriorating relations with
all its neighboring countries.
"But Azerbaijan's greatest problems are with Russia. This fact has
already impacted the unprecedented growth in the Armenian-Russian
militaro-tactical and political cooperation," Sergey Minasyan said,
and concluded:
"The political autumn will be very interesting; I would say even
unprecedented in Azerbaijan."
