NO SIGNIFICANT MOVEMENT ON KARABAKH TALKS IS OBSERVED - EXPERT
June 12, 2013 | 13:24
YEREVAN. - No major processes on Karabakh talks and the conflict
itself exist, Armenian political analyst said.
Deputy Director of Caucasus Institute Sergey Minasyan believes there is
only one key fact: the so-called status quo is preserved and enhanced.
Simulation of talks will continue, and the parties will try in some
way to make the status quo more profitable for themselves.
"Azerbaijanis are trying to use the strategy of economic pressure
or blackmail. The Armenian side is making attempts to strengthen the
situation that have been established since the end of hostilities in
1994, in order to show that the development of statehood in Karabakh
continues," Minasyan told reporters on Wednesday.
Sergey Minasyan noted that the visit of the world-famous singer
Montserrat Caballe to Karabakh had almost the same effect as,
for example, deployement of modern Russian weapons in Armenia or
Azerbaijan's attempts to affect Yerevan or the international community
by continuing the arms race.
"Significant movement on the Karabakh issues has not been seen yet,"
he concluded.
