Turkey has rejected Pope Francois's statement reflecting Armenian
    claims regarding the 1915 incidents.

Ankara rebuffs Pope Francois's statement reflecting Armenian claims
    regarding the 1915 incidents.

A Foreign Ministry statement said that contribution to world peace
rather than extraction of animosity from history was expected from
the Pope because of his responsibility at a spiritual position.

The discontent felt over the statements of Roman Catholic Spiritual
Leader Pope Francois was expressed in the Foreign Ministry statement.

The statement reminded that the last years of the Ottoman Empire were
a tragic period for all peoples when the Turks, Armenians and other
    communities had suffered grave pains.

Turkey's proposal for the establishment of a joint commission to
uncover historical facts was repeated in the statement saying that
the Armenian historical point of view has been partially taking into
account only the sufferings of Armenians and distorting the incidents
    in different ways.

Regarding the matter Vatican Ambassador in Ankara was summonsed to
Foreign Ministry and conveyed Turkey's discomfort over the statements.

The Ambassador was asked to avoid such steps which could inflict
    irreparable damage to bilateral relations.
