BLOCK `KARABAKH` CONDEMNS THE NOMINATION OF ILHAM ALIYEV FOR A THIRD TERM OF PRESIDENCY

Today's meeting of the Bloc "Karabakh" condemned the nomination of
President Ilham Aliyev for a third presidential term, calling it
"unacceptable." This decision, according to members of the Bloc,
is contrary to democratic principles and human values. The Bloc
also condemned a referendum conducted in 2009 which made changes
in the constitution at will of the authorities. In their opinion,
the referendum was not a quorum, because it involved less than 25%
of voters, and the Venice Commission gave a negative conclusion on
the referendum. Under the presidency of Ilham Aliyev, the situation
with corruption, human rights, democracy has changed for the worse, as
well as in the living standard of the population. No positive changes
were observed in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. The Bloc
"Karabakh" decided to join the Committee to Protect the rights of
the arrested lawyer, Gurban Mammadov. -05D04-
