EXPERT: IRAN WILL BE THE ONLY STABLE MIDDLE EAST STATE IN CASE OF WORST SCENARIO IN TURKEY
June 18, 2013 | 12:50
YEREVAN. - Iran surprised the international community by the results
of the presidential elections, Armenian expert said.
Vardan Voskanyan noted that, according to the opinion polls, Hassan
Rouhani was not named among the favorites of the presidential race.
According to him, reformist and conservative forces in Iran, as a
rule, do not go beyond foreign policy line drawn by spiritual leader
Ali Khamenei. Naturally, from this viewpoint, Hassan Rouhani is
no exception.
"Quite active voting of women and young people played a crucial role
in Rouhani's victory in the presidential elections," the expert said
during the Tuesday press conference.
As regard Iran's foreign policy, the expert pointed out important steps
made by the leadership aimed at raising reputation of the country in
the international scene.
"Ianian government has shown it can organize transparent and fair
elections, of course, within the framework of the Constitution of
Iran," he said, adding that the authority of the country also increased
among Islamic countries in connection with the events taking place
in the Arab States and Turkey.
Despite all the pessimistic predictions, in fact, Iran has overcome
all crisis stages.
"If the events in Turkey develop according to the worst-case scenario,
Iran will be the only superpower and stable country in the Middle East,
which would be good for Armenia," he added.
