OPINION POLL SHOWS 46% OF RESPONDENTS IN YEREVAN ARE POTENTIAL EMIGRANTS

    June 17, 2013 | 16:37

YEREVAN. - Armenia is facing depopulation rather than emigration,
head of the Armenian Sociological Association Gevorg Poghosyan.

He said the official data showed that in 2013 the number of migrants
raised by 10,000 as compared with four months last year.

The opinion poll conducted in Yerevan revealed that 46 percent of
    respondents are potential emigrants.

"It is a half of population with indicators higher among men (around
50%) than among women (42%). Fifty-two percent of young people are
    potential emigrants," he said.

Among the reasons for leaving the country, respondents named
unemployment (32%), no prospects (30%), no justice (20%) and no
    housing facilities.

Noting that there is a certain link between migration and rate of
happiness, Poghosyan stressed that 70 percent of pollees said they
feel happy but around 41 percent of them want to leave Armenia.
