Arsenic, mercury, lead and cadmium detected in Yerevan air

    June 22, 2013 | 14:27

YEREVAN. - There is a high concentration of dust in Armenia's capital
    city Yerevan.

Heavy metals and first-degree dangerous elements - i.e., arsenic,
mercury, lead, and cadmium - were found in the composition of this dust
    in Yerevan, `EcoLur' NGO reports.

It was found out that downtown Yerevan is the most polluted.

The 39 gravel and sand mines, which operate around the Armenian
capital city, are the largest sources of pollution.

The city transport system likewise plays a negative role.

Since Yerevan is located in a semi-desert zone and the green areas of
the city have reduced, the lands without plants become a secondary
    source of pollution.

The construction sites are another source of pollution, too.
