Rostov-na-Donu, 24 June: More than 3,000 servicemen and 500 pieces
of combat hardware are involved in the command-post exercises for
the Southern Military District's motor-rifle formations which began
simultaneously at three ranges, situated in Stavropol Territory,
Dagestan and at Russia's military base in Armenia, on Monday [24 June],
the press service of the Southern Military District reported.
"In a complex and rapidly-changing environment officers from
directorates and headquarters will work on practical aspects
of uninterrupted management of subordinated detachments in the
course of a battle, organization of teamwork among detachments from
[different] arms of service while repelling a mock enemy attack,"
reads a statement by the Southern Military District press service
received by Interfax-AVN on Monday.
It said that around 3,000 servicemen and over 500 pieces of various
military hardware are involved in the exercises, including BTR-82A
[armoured personnel carriers], BMP-2 [infantry fighting vehicles],
T-90A [tanks], Mstra-S self-propelled guns, multiple-launch rocket
systems as well as fifth-generation communications equipment.
The Southern Military District press service said that in the course
of the exercises command-and-control posts will be moved around across
substantial distances in line with the nature of modern warfare.
Motor-rifle detachments, along with the forces attached to them,
will carry out raids and reconnaissance-and-search activities and a
stage of live firing with the use of modern military hardware.
