RUSSIAN SECURITY COUNCIL SECRETARY VISITS RUSSIAN MILITARY BASE IN ARMENIA

    Interfax, Russia
    June 25 2013

Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev visited the
Russian military base in Gyumri in northern Armenia on Monday.

Patrushev is in Armenia on the invitation of the Armenian National
    Security Council Secretary Artur Bagdasarian.

Patrushev said in remarks about the Gyumri television station Gala's
report that Russia has sold $1 billion in arms to Azerbaijan, that
"Russia maintains trade ties with all countries, so any country that
wants to buy Russian weapons can get them if law is observed," he said.

Patrushev was received by Armenian President Serzh Sargsian on Sunday.

The Armenian Defense Ministry's press secretary Artsrun Ovannisyan
earlier said that Armenia does not see the purchase of large batches
of weapons by Azerbaijan as a factor that could upset the balance of
    forces in the region.

The types and amount of weapons being purchased will not upset the
balance of forces and will not create prerequisites for the Azeri
leadership to commit an aggression against Armenia.

Russian media earlier said that shipments of weapons to the land
forces worth almost $1 billion have started from Russia to Azerbaijan.
