HAYRIKYAN: KGB TO BLAME FOR ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

National Self-Determination Union political party leader Paruyr
Hayrikyan keeps claiming months after the assassination attempt
against him, committed during the presidential election campaign
period, that "Russian KGB was behind it" and warns "the political
forces and citizens to revolt against Russia with determination"; his
theses, however, has not been considered during the investigation and
    trial of his case.

The former presidential candidate, who spent 17 years in prison during
the Soviet years for being a dissident, was wounded in his right
collarbone in late January in a gunshot assault, has repeatedly spoken
against "Russian imperialism". During his Friday meeting with media he
said in reference to the Russia-Azerbaijan arms deal (Russia sold $1
billion worth of weaponry to Azerbaijan) that diplomatic relations
should have been suspended with Russia, along with all possible
    agreements.

"The authorities did not do it, nor did the opposition suggest it,
since there is no 'fight for chair' now. Our strategic partner Russia
supplies another $1 billion's worth of arms to Azerbaijan, a country
that keeps threatening us with war, and a kind of weaponry Russia
itself is not using yet. I have made some calculations: that country
has given $500 worth of weaponry per citizen of Armenia to be killed,"
said Hayrikyan, adding that if the state does not take steps, the
opposition and citizens have to unite around those concerned over "our
people's faith", hold rallies, demand power turnover.

Hayrikyan, who has been accompanied by state-provided bodyguards ever
since the armed assault, reaffirmed his opinion concerning his case
that Russian imperialism, aka KGB with its network, is behind the
    attempt to kill him.

"It's common knowledge that the one who had ordered the assassination
has not been discovered yet. The court has acted funny. Somebody
receives $100,000 from strangers. Let the court summon those people,"
    he says.
